Re-Use in Construction: interview with Dr. Catherine de Wolf
Today, many people use artificial intelligence to find their ideal partner. Can AI or this technology also find the best match in the construction industry? Dr Catherine de Wolf works on automation for the reuse of building materials. She is an assistant professor for "Circular Engineering for Architecture" at ETH Zurich. Birgit is our captain and talks to Catherine about how this was achieved, using the real-life example of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and why the link between science and industry is the key to a circular built environment.
sumami: Anna Buser et Cyrille Veron
In this final episode of the Matière Ultime series, we meet Cyrille Veron, a civil engineer who has changed the way he works throughout his career in order to give new meaning to his work, and Anna Buser, an anthropologist and urban planner who has been immersed in reuse since the beginning of her studies. Anna and Cyrille represent two generations of builders who can no longer work 'as they used to', in other words ignoring the negative impact of the usual processes. They share their convictions with optimism, convinced that, logically, a better human a
Bauteile wiederverwenden: im Gespräch mit Barbara Buser
This time I'm talking to the architect Barbara Buser. She is a pioneer of building with existing components. In the 1990s, she founded the first Swiss component exchange. Now she and her office have gone one step further: they not only want to collect, process and sell used components, they also want to build with them. The K.118 building is an extension in Winterthur that was built largely with existing components. We talk about building with used components, the CO2 savings involved and why maintenance is better than recycling.
Über Lebenszyklen und Kreisläufe beim Bauen — mit Professorin Catherine De Wolf
In the thirteenth episode of the NEST podcast, Peter Richner talks to Catherine De Wolf about the importance of building life cycles for CO2 targets. Catherine De Wolf was appointed professor at the ETH Zurich this year and is an expert in circular construction. The discussion will also focus on the factors that determine the implementation of reuse in the construction sector and the true price of materials. The discussion will be held initially in German and then in English.
«Die Roche war not amused» - Barbara Buser
The Roche site in Basel, between the Rhine promenade and Grenzacherstrasse, is undergoing a major transformation. Demolition and new construction are the order of the day. This raises questions: Can buildings worthy of protection be demolished? Is the demolition even ecologically justifiable? We discuss this with Basel architect Barbara Buser, who has made a name for herself in the field of reuse and circular economy.
