Our films about reuse include interviews with pioneers and document student projects.

Digital Transformation for Circular Construction

This film showcases how digital technologies can be harnessed to create a more circular construction sector. Through a hands-on case study of the reuse of building materials from the Huber pavilions in a new structure, students at ETH Zurich explore different digital approaches such as digital product passports, artificial intelligence, digital fabrication, and extended reality.

Digitalisation for Circular Construction

How can we bring together two aims that are often kept separate: low-impact construction and digital innovation? Students learn about circular construction hands-on through the disassembly of an entire building. They explore digital technologies to fabricate a new building made solely from the reused materials.

Selected to be screened at the Global Science Film Festival by the Swiss Science Film Academy.

A time-lapse of the building process

Students designed a pavilion using salvaged materials from a nearby construction site. The collaborative design process involved different groups that focussed on the foundation, roof, floor, walls, and other parts of the construction.

The story of reusing the glass from the Centre Pompidou

The reuse of Centre Pompidou's beautifully bent glass illustrates how we can transition towards a circular economy in the built environment. In Sanskrit, samsara refers to the cycle of death and rebirth that affects everything in the material world.

Official selection at the Science Film Competition 2021: Global Section.

Student films

During courses at ETH Zurich, students are given the opportunity to discover digital innovations for circular construction and communicate this knowledge to the public using the different media available. These short student films show the methods and digitalisations discovered in the CEA laboratory.
