ROTOR DB & DC

Rotor DB is a non-profit organisation based in Brussels that studies material flows within the economy. Established in 2005, Rotor promotes the salvage and reuse of building materials through initiatives that include:

  • Assisting building owners and policymakers in reclamation and reuse strategies

  • Researching and developing public tools to promote the adoption of reuse strategies, including the reference web portal Opalis.eu, a directory of salvage dealers, and a documentation center on reuse

  • Raising awareness about ecology, reuse, and sustainable construction through educational programs, lectures, and publications

  • Incorporating reused materials in interior design projects.

From 2013 to 2016, Rotor managed the RotorDC project, which has since evolved into its own cooperative entity, dedicated to supplying reusable building elements sourced from local demolition sites.

RotorDC (Deconstruction & Consulting) was launched as a spin-off project of Rotor in 2016. Since then, it has been organised as a cooperative company that dismantles, processes and sells salvaged building materials and furniture. By offering a wide variety of salvaged materials, RotorDC provides sustainable options for builders and designers, targeting professional and private clients alike. Over the past few years, RotorDC has evolved from a conceptual initiative into a leading player in the Brussels material reuse sector. The company has developed a wide range of solutions in terms of logistics, materials cleaning and delivery.
